Infrastructure

The Government M.H. College of Home Science and Science for Women was started in 1954. Since then, the college has developed into a big Educational Institute in Jabalpur. Spread over 10.75 acres of land, it is one of the biggest colleges of M P. The building is designed very artistically, is well-ventilated, and is spacious. The five gardens are the best hangouts for the students in their free time. The College has big playgrounds and courts for Basketball, volleyball, etc. The Classrooms are equipped with close circuit cameras, thus permitting close monitoring of teaching, examinations, and other activities in various rooms simultaneously by the Principal. The hostel is located on the college campus making it safer and more convenient for the students.

Four years after the establishment of the college it was decided to provide a hostel facility to students coming from different places and the First hostel building was constructed in the year 1958. The first superintendent was the founder principal of the college, Mrs. Kusum Mehta.

The college has three hostel buildings named “SWAYAMSIDDHA BLOCK A, B, C & D “on the premises accommodating ~ 700 students coming from nearby areas & other states. All three blocks are connected through a gallery, however, the administration & mess facility is centralized. The hostel provides a high degree of security & good facilities.

The motto of the hostel is “Home away from Home”. The hostel wardens and “caretakers” pay personal attention & ensure a healthy environment in the hostel. Facilities like food purified drinking water, entertainment, telephone, counseling, coaching, Computer Laboratory & Library are integral parts of the hostel. The health facility includes the daily visit of a doctor in the evening & also on-call, in case of emergency. The hostel rooms are spacious, with proper ventilation & lighting facilities, and are well furnished.

The library is situated on the ground floor over an area of 950 Sq.m. with well-classified sections Librarian Chamber. Computer section. Issue Return. Subject wise Book Section. Magazine Section. Reading Room with Open Shelf System. Special space for Visually Challenged persons. Photocopy Section. Space for Keeping belongings. FEATURES OF LIBRARY The Library is computerized & works on the Network version of SOUL software, developed by Inflibnet/DeNet for executing various functions like a generation of Library Cards, Issue / Return, Search, OPAC i.e. Open Public Access Circulation, Generation of Barcodes, etc.

The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.

Indoor - An ideal Badminton hall with a thick rubber-coated playing surface with Table-Tennis and chess facilities available at the Sports Complex.

Outdoor - A Cemented Basket Ball ground with an Acrylic backboard and cemented volleyball playing surface with a small land piece as a ground for other activities like-Kho-Kho, Kabaddi Athletics Cricket, etc are available in College.

Gymnasium - A sixteen-station weight training machine gym situated on the ground floor and other machines related to modern equipment for exercise ie. Treadmill, Cross Trainer, Excercise BIkes, and Twister are available in the Sports Complex.
